PTV RushHour

PTV RushHour offers reliable information on the actual arrival time, which is often lacking in navigation and route planning systems today. Reason being, that the determined travelling times are based on specified speeds for different road classes, independent of the time of day and week day. The estimated arrival time (ETA) thus often does not relate to reality. Something similar applies to dynamic navigation: Not only are current traffic reports taken into account but also the resulting changes to the travel times are based on defined speeds of a route.

PTV RushHour is an essential tool for automobile and navigation system manufacturers, map suppliers and providers for logistic solutions for the transport industry.

Your advantages with PTV RushHour

  • Improved calculation of travel times
PTV RushHour offers expected driving times or speeds, which correspond to the usual traffic volumes in dependency of the time of day and the week day.
  • Improvement in quality of navigation systems
Dynamic route recommendations exactly correspond to the actual circumstances and offer navigation system providers distinct improvement.
  • More efficiency for logistic planning systems
The logistics industry benefits from the fact that trip planning is adjusted according to the expected traffic conditions to form efficient trip suggestions and route recommendations. Optimal route planning can reduce vehicle operation.
Incidentally: The software PTV Intertour already takes the expected traffic conditions into account when planning a trip. This is how reliable trips can generally be planned and the number of orders per trip can be increased.
  • More reliable travel planning
  • Better route selection
  • Equal spatial and temporal distribution of traffic

The data basis: A lot of information for realistic travel times

In PTV RushHour several possibilities are combined for obtaining traffic relevant information: Calculated travel times from many different data sources are supplemented and completed with data from PTV VALIDATE. The world's largest traffic model determines traffic volumes through simulation calculation. The special thing is the size and the detailed road network and the modelling of the travel demand. For Germany PTV VALIDATE contains data of over 80,000 economic areas, which again are combined to approximately 7,000 traffic areas, as well as a detailed navigation network.

  • Due to empirical data the system precisely calculates how much traffic is present at what time on the roads and shows the dependency of the travel time from external influences such as structural data and national travel behavioural pattern (commuter data, driving purposes, etc.). The data on traffic volumes allow coherent conclusions to be made on the required travel times.
  • The PTV VALIDATE data is complemented by measuring data and historical data from detectors, FCDs as well as traffic report evaluations. This is how the travel times depend on the week day, the time of day or also on holidays and the weather. This is how travel data can be created, whose use on the other hand is also valuable for navigation.
  • Regular travel times depend on the traffic volume. The traffic volume correlates with the temporal and spatial use of the road network. PTV RushHour enables the calculation of travel times in dependency of the departure time, therefore comparing the travel time at departure at five o'clock in the morning and the departure at eight o'clock.
  • The calculated travel times for the whole of Germany can be used for navigation. The information can be predicted: If the network capacities change, so does the planned travel time. An asset for navigation and route planning!

Conclusion: More efficiency in everyday work life - and also private life

PTV RushHour determines realistic journey times and arrival times taking traffic conditions into account. Especially professional users benefit from it. Because if neuralgic traffic jam points are avoided, this for example may lead to a more efficient contracting in logistics. In sales force the employees spend more time at the customer than in traffic jams.

This is also an advantage for the environment: Because route recommendation which has traffic bottlenecks, gives more flexible road users the possibility of travelling at better times. Those who are bound to deadlines can circumnavigate traffic jams. This is how the traffic load is distributed more evenly.
