Toll

Satellite-based toll systems offer many advantages over conventional systems: The exact distance travelled can easily be calculated, eliminating the need for the vehicle to stop, and thus ensuring smoother traffic flow.
Thanks to the system's future-orientated approach the toll operator can always introduce new toll rates (e.g. based on the number of axles or the emission category), change toll fees and expand the network of toll roads. There are no roadside infrastructure costs compared to road toll collected at toll stations.
On-board map data always kept up-to-date
Using GPS technology to determine the route travelled, the on-board unit (OBU) immediately calculates the charges levied by the tolling systems. The data is then transmitted via mobile communication to the data centre where it is processed for billing purposes.
All map data and attributes are updated in the onboard unit. PTV software supports the entire data processing chain: from central map data editing to the unique process of incremental up-dating of the on-board data and on-board evaluation of the distance travelled.
Use of PTV technology
PTV RoadRunner and PTV MobilityPlatform are ideal solutions for satellite-based road tolling.
