wiki – Impact of individual and collective on-trip traffic information and management on traffic in conurbations

Little is known about the effectiveness and potential of singular traffic control systems. Therefore, the project wiki analyses the effects of traffic control installations.

Both collective systems (radio, variable direction signs) and individual systems (navigation systems) are taken into consideration. Complex empiric surveys are carried out using vehicle detection, GPS-logs and a driving simulator to learn more about the impact of traffic control systems on the route choice and the choice of departure time in road traffic.  

 The project objectives:

• Analysis of the effects of traffic control systems on route choice
• Identification of the potential of traffic control systems
• Definition of requirements for individual traffic control systems
• Definition of requirements for collective traffic control systems
• Definition of requirements for a coordinated service of collective and individual traffic control systems
