e-Freight - European e-Freight capabilities for co-modal transport
The primary project objective is to provide e-Freight capabilities for unitised transport services in Europe which will support the achievement of co-modality in European transport networks. The specific project objectives in the different fields are:
Analyse requirements for e-Freight capabilities along policy, legal, market and technology perspectives to establish a formal e-Freight architectural framework and a road-map for the implementation of e-Freight across Europe.
Provide an open source e-Freight Platform to support the design, development, deployment and maintenance of e-Freight Solutions. The design of the platform will leverage on existing technologies based on current state-of-the-art open software engineering standards and ongoing standardization efforts from W3C and OASIS. In particular the platform will be mainly based on Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) concepts and current research efforts towards Semantically Enabled Service Oriented Architecture (SESA).
Provide enhanced A2A and A2B solutions in support of co-modality (utilising the e-Freight platform); specifically facilitating efficient information exchange between Administrations and Businesses for cargo and traffic monitoring and control.
Develop B2B and B2A solutions (utilising the e-Freight platform) for improved efficiency and end-to-end quality of co-modal surface freight transportation.
