Ulaanbaatar opts for German transportation planning software
Mongolia is the 100th country to use the PTV Vision software suite
Karlsruhe, Germany. 03 February 2012. The traffic management centre of Mongolia's capital Ulaanbataar has chosen PTV's software system for planning and optimising road transport. In January, they acquired PTV Vision licences. Mongolia is the 100th country which now uses PTV's transportation planning software.
Ulaanbaatar's roads are almost always gridlocked. "There are increasing calls for new roads and bridges. But we want to know whether it is actually necessary to build them," explains Ochir-Erdene Demberel, head of traffic management at the traffic management centre of Ulaanbaatar. Therefore, Ulaanbaatar’s transportation experts have chosen to analyse the situation with the transportation planning software VISUM, a component of the PTV Vision software suite. "PTV software enables us to analyse any kind of traffic and transportation issue and it has an excellent reputation," says Demberel.
Focus on intersections and green time
The first project which the transportation experts want to implement with the new software tool will focus on the optimisation of intersections. "Moreover, we aim to improve our signal control systems and generate a green wave," says Demberel. An integrated approach is important to him. "We are convinced that we can solve numerous urban traffic and transportation issues this way – without excessively expensive investments in construction," states Demberel. He sees Ulaanbataar as a trendsetter for other industrial cities in Mongolia, initiating the deployment of software for transportation planning and traffic engineering.
PTV Vision is the leading software suite for transportation planning and traffic engineering with more than 2,000 customers worldwide. Mongolia is the 100th country that relies on VISUM und VISSIM. The software tools outperformed rival products and impressed the Mongolian transportation experts: "We have opted for PTV Vision because the software perfectly combines strategic and operational planning," says Demberel.
